MOON FOUNTAIN "The moon fountain is carved from 3 pieces of coral. The quarter moon on the left represents the first quarter of the moon. The quarter moon on the right represents the last quarter of the moon. The third piece of coral is the fountain, which represents the full moon. The first and last quarters of the moon each weigh 18 tons. The full moon weighs 23 tons. Ed used this part as a fish pond. He usually had fish and water hyacinths in the pond, and expected visitors to stop and look at his pond. Coral is very porous, which caused Ed to line the pond with cement. He built a star island in the center of the moon pond fountain filled by means of an old pump )ocated behind the moon fountain. Notice the seats built into the first and last quarters of the moon. These are favorite places for people having their pictures taken. Today the moon pond is used as a wishing well. Money taken from the pond is donated to charity." ... http://www.coralcastle.com "The wall behind the moon fountain is made of
three separate blocks of coral. The center block is the heaviest piece
in the castle. It weighs approximately 60,000 pounds. Ed was so proud
of having cut and moved so great a weight, he placed a monument on
top of it. He called in the "Crown." ...CORAL
